Towards a European Federal Defence

In 2016 the debate on the need to equip the European Union with an autonomous defence capability received a major boost for two reasons: a) the unstoppable flow of immigrants from areas in the throes of an economic or political crisis and terrorist attacks involving several European countries that have placed the need for a joint response on the agenda, hence, for a European foreign and defence policy; and b) a new historic occurrence, i.e. the change in American foreign policy towards Europe.
